Parenting in 2012 is no
cakewalk. Moms and
dads have both an
amazing AND scary job
raising up boys and girls
to become men and women of God.

GameDay children’s ministries and CrosslineYouth are teaming up to host a crucial gathering of parents.

Sunday, April 29th, 2012, we’ll give you the essentials you need to defend your family.

Our families are open to harm both from within and without, so we want to help equip you to (more…)

Family Serve Day in L.A.

It’s time for the family to serve together.

One of our goals for 2012 is to bring our students and families closer to each other and closer to Christ. We want to encourage and support moms and dads who bear the weight of training up their kids to follow Jesus. We want our families to be learning, serving, and worshiping together.

Instead of doing our annual weekend service trip in LA with just students, we are doing a 1 day  (9am-6pm) trip to Los Angeles with students AND their parents.

The details are… (more…)

What Not to Ask Your Kid After Church

One of the youth ministry blogs I read recently
came out with a short write-up on the notorious
interaction between parents and kids after
church.  For many parents, this exchange
can be frustrating if not depressing.

The blog reads:

“Did you have fun?” I have probably asked my
own kids this question dozens of times after
Sunday orWednesday Bible class. But that is going to change.

Last Wednesday night we were talking about [the cost of following Jesus], specifically looking at Jesus words about [hating your mother and father as compared to your devotion to following him]. I walked out of the class behind one of the students when a parent asked him, “Did you have fun in class?”

Fun?! I was indignant for about an hour until (more…)

Some Help for Connecting with Your Kid

Parents,

I’m blessed to be in the stage of parenting where my daughter thinks I’m a hero and my wife is a “princess”.

THEN….there often comes the dreaded day when mom & dad lose hero status and become a *perceived* threat to a child’s fledgling reputation. (it doesn’t always happen, but it happens quite a bit…)

While it hasn’t happened to us yet, I’ve seen it take place hundreds of times in the last 17 years of youth ministry.  Parents are often taken aback, wondering what they did wrong. Sometimes they react in anger, hoping to force a change. Sometimes they react in a “have it your way” approach and simply let the relationship falter. No matter what, the family is in crisis.

  • Is your child resistant to communicate freely with you about meaningful things?
  • Do you remember a time when conversations were more care free and less toned with edginess?
  • Do you hope to reconnect with your teenager and see your relationship flourish?

There is hope… (more…)

When Children Become Idols

This week, many of our students & leaders are reading 1 Sam 1-3 (as part of the Crux100 plan). This O.T. passage is on the top 100 list for a few reasons, like:

*Israel demanded to have a human king instead of a heavenly one & God gives them what they want… even to their detriment.

*God’s plan to raise up a king through whom the true King(and priest), Jesus, would come & is put into place.

One of the smaller stories within the bigger story of God in the book of 1 Samuel revolves around a main character of that name. He was just a regular kid who’d been set apart for God to use from a very young age. He had been dedicated to God, raised by Eli, the Levite priest & then trained as a priest of God.

Although he was a (more…)
